Sharp Traders

In prediction markets like Polymarket, a small fraction of traders (the "sharp traders") typically account for most profits. These traders often have sophisticated strategies, deep market knowledge, and consistent performance. By studying their trades and patterns, you can gain valuable insights into successful prediction market strategies.

Dumb Money

The majority of traders (often called "dumb money") tend to incur losses in prediction markets. These traders might make emotional decisions, lack proper research, or fail to manage risk effectively. Understanding common mistakes can help you avoid similar pitfalls in your own trading strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PnL on Polymarket?

PnL stands for Profit and Loss, indicating a trader's net earnings or losses across all Polymarket trades. Our leaderboard ranks traders primarily by their overall PnL, which is calculated by subtracting Total Losses from Total Wins. A positive number indicates overall profit, while a negative number shows the trader has lost money overall.

What does Win Rate tell me?

Win Rate shows what percentage of a trader's positions ended profitably. A higher win rate (closer to 100%) indicates a trader who consistently makes profitable trades. However, win rate alone doesn't tell the whole story - a trader could have a high win rate with many small wins but a few very large losses. Also, due to Polymarket's negrisk functionality, sharp money trader's often hedge multiple positions within a market so win rate doesn't always reflect their true trading performance.

What is Current Value?

Current Value represents the total value of all positions a trader currently holds in active markets, calculated using current market prices. This metric shows how much money the trader has outstanding across all their open positions, which can be useful for gauging their current market exposure and trading activity level.

How often is the leaderboard updated?

Polymarket Analytics updates the traders leaderboard every 5 minutes, ensuring you have near real-time data on trader performance and market activity.
